After we started a UFO club at the shop, I decided it was time to go back and visit my stash of unfinished projects. Most of my sewing time is spent either making samples for the shop, or working on projects related to classes I am teaching there. So, it was fun going back to something I was making just for me, and finishing it
I found the pattern by Kay M. Capps Cross in the Winter 2008 Fabric Trends magazine, and while it looks
amazing in black and white, I wanted something a little more earthy. Here's the project as I found it, with the top completed, paper still intact from the paper piecing sections.
After removing all that pesky paper, finding a suitable back and some batting, I set
out to choose some thread for quilting. I wanted to accent the red fabric with some shadow quilting in red thread on the dark brown background, but I wasn't overly confident in how it would look in the end.
I was happy with one round of red quilting, but not so happy when I started the second round. I ended up taking out the second round, and finishing off the quilting in a manner very similar to the original quilt in the magazine. Here's the finished quilt, and it's final home in my kitchen.
It feels good to finish a project. One down, many more to go.
